I would like to set the record straight about the proposed
bylaw amendment regarding qualifications to serve on The Elizabeth Condominium
Association Board of Directors and which was submitted to the Board as a
petition on March 26, 2019 by Molly Frantz.
Here is the amended bylaw as set forth in Ms. Frantz’s
petition:
While it is true that this change is essentially similar to
the bylaw change prepared for the May 2017 annual meeting, the reason Ms. Frantz
circulated the March 26, 2019 petition for this change was specifically to
target a sitting member of our current Board and therefore was politically motivated.
The hope of Ms. Frantz was to remove the sitting Board member and replace that Director
before or at the May 1, 2019 annual meeting to give Ms. Frantz a greater
opportunity to win election to the Board.
I would also like to point out that Ms. Frantz resigned from
the Board in 2011 saying in her letter to the Board that she couldn’t tolerate the “personal ill-will,
petulance [sic] behavior, hidden agendas” and yet her petition demonstrates the
same kind of personal ill will.
You may want to review my blogpost dated April 23, 2017,
which reported on the 2017 Meet the Candidates for the Elizabeth Board.
Molly Frantz, Alfred Muller, and Zlatan Beca were all
running for the Board that year. At the conclusion of that blogpost, I posed a number
of questions and thoughts which may be again helpful in thinking through the
candidates currently running for the Board. These include asking:
Do you want a Board
member:
— whose policy has been frequently presented
as a “run to failure”—wait to repair building infrastructure only when it
fails?
—who has a history of
attacking a sitting Board?
—who lacks a realistic
understanding of business and/or accounting practices?
Finally, do you want a
board that will work together on behalf of everyone in the Association? That
only leaves the question about what we can do as a group to encourage polite
and civil behavior among attending Association members who seem to forget that
serving on The Elizabeth Condominium Board is a voluntary position.
As you can see such questions are relevant to the 2019
election and certainly the issue of civility looms large. Please take the
opportunity to read the bios of the current Board candidates and attend the
Meet the Candidates night. In addition,
you are encouraged to Google them for more information. As I have done in the
past, I will report what is said after the Candidates speak.

Karren -- I wouldn't support me either if your remarks are remotely true. The 15th should be interesting. This time I will be present to respond.

I'm not sure you set the record straight. I do not see your reference to the earlier by law proposed amendment regarding the term limits of the Board as the same issue as the current proposal. Rhonda Taller remaining on the Board after she sold and vacated her unit raised a red flag. After I looked at the by laws and saw that the way it is currently written only the majority of the Board needs to reside/own in the Elizabeth, I could forsee that could create an overlooked problem. If Ms. Taller stayed on the Board to complete the task of finishing the Employee Handbook, then I thank her for that. But, her remaining drew attention to the fact that the current by laws allow as many as three non-resident, non-owners to be on the Board. I feel strongly that that should be corrected and is the reason I signed the petition that Molly Frantz circulated.
Democracy thrives on diversity. You may see Molly having ulterior motives but I see her as someone whose crusades are for the good of the building. She is a tireless worker for the Making a Difference Committee. Her list of volunteer activities for the community is extensive. I know what a thankless job being Board Member is and I salute anyone who seeks the position without any ulterior motives. Margaret McNerney #108
